Consignee

The party to whom the goods must be delivered under the consignment note; the one who inspects them and notes reservations on receipt.

The consignee is the party named on the consignment note as receiver. It may be the buyer, its warehouse or a destination forwarder. Under the CMR, once the goods arrive it may demand delivery against the second copy of the consignment note.

Its key job is to inspect: apparent damage must be noted at the time of delivery; non-apparent damage must be reserved in writing within 7 days, Sundays and public holidays excluded (art. 30.1). Otherwise the goods are presumed received in good condition.
