Trajectory

Glauc Fornés Gil

I entered the sector twenty years ago through the lowest door there is: as a stock boy in a warehouse. Vocational training at Fundació Prat in Barcelona and, from there, an entire career inside operations: six years at DHL and three at IFS International Forwarding, moving through Import Operations and Pricing.

Glauc Fornés Gil

In 2015 I joined a. hartrodt España as Pricing Manager. In July 2019, aged 29, I was appointed General Manager of the Spanish organization, with offices in Barcelona and Onda (Castellón), leading it together with Managing Director Lorena Fígaro. The period that followed delivered the company’s best results in years.

In 2021, FIATA and TT Club named me Young International Freight Forwarder of the Year — Europe region winner and one of the four world finalists. In 2023 I became Regional LCL Hub Manager for the a. hartrodt group’s Mediterranean & South Africa region, and in 2024 Business Process Manager for the same region: day-to-day operational leadership with each country’s Operations Managers, plus regional ownership of processes, quality and efficiency. Certified OKR specialist.

The through-line of the whole route is the same: improving processes with my hands inside them. At every company I have been part of, I ended up automating what used to be done by hand — and that is exactly the natural continuation software represents. In 2026 that convergence became formal: I am investor and CTO of Auriga Intelligence, a software venture building products to improve and automate logistics processes and developing the first 100% European, sovereign AI specialized in transport. My primary role remains BPM at a. hartrodt; Auriga is a venture running in parallel.

I also collaborate actively with educational centers developing the next generation of logistics professionals.

The award

Young International Freight Forwarder of the Year Award (YIFFYA) 2021 — Region Europe winner, organized by FIATA (International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations) and TT Club. I represented FETEIA (Spain), nominated via ATEIA-OLTRA Barcelona as Spanish Young Freight Forwarder of the Year 2021. As the European winner, I was one of the four regional winners competing for the world title.

“More than just a freight broker”

The dissertation, "More than just a freight broker", defended that a forwarder is far more than an intermediary in freight buying and selling — with two real case studies: the export of a crane with pieces over 50 m long and 6 m wide, and the import of e-bikes with distribution across Europe.

How I think about the profession

  • The forwarder as strategic partner, not intermediary: traditional expertise plus new technologies, with consultancy as the core value. Many customers don’t know exactly what they need — that is why advice adds value.
  • A website or an app cannot be a forwarder: they are a freight marketplace. Technology serves the expert; it does not replace them. That is exactly why I build tools.
  • A commitment to logistics education and young talent: international internships and normalizing English in daily office life.
