- A strap’s pretension must not exceed 50 % of its LC. Always round up.
What it does and does not do
- Road acceleration coefficients (Table 2): 0.8 g forward, 0.5 g rearward and sideways, 0.6 g for sideways tipping, 1.0 g vertical. Rail and sea are not included.
- Friction values are those of Annex B (normative), valid dry and wet with clean, ice-free surfaces.
- Tie-down lashing works only through friction: as µ tends to zero, no number of straps is enough.
- Tipping is computed for one symmetric block with top-over lashing; loop lashing, spring lashing and direct lashing against tipping are not included.
Indicative calculation under EN 12195-1:2010 for road transport. Real securing depends on the goods, the vehicle, the state of the straps and the national rules that apply; the driver and the loader are responsible. Check the text of the standard and the official guides before deciding.
