Beyond the driving licence, anyone driving trucks or buses professionally in the EU needs the certificate of professional competence. Directive 2022/2561 sets an initial qualification and periodic training of 35 hours every five years.
The certificate is shown by code 95 on the licence or on a dedicated card. The syllabus covers rational driving, regulations, and health, safety and logistics. Without a valid CPC the driver may not drive commercially and the company is exposed to penalties.
