Driving time

Limits under Reg. 561/2006: 9 h daily (10 h twice a week), 56 h weekly, 90 h in two consecutive weeks (art. 6).

Driving time is what the tachograph records while the vehicle moves. Regulation 561/2006 caps it at 9 hours a day, extendable to 10 hours twice a week; 56 hours a week; and 90 hours in two consecutive weeks (art. 6).

Every 4.5 hours a 45-minute break is due (art. 7), and between shifts comes the daily rest (art. 8). These limits apply to vehicles over 3.5 t in the EU, the EEA and Switzerland; outside, the AETR applies.

When quoting a haul, work the distance against these limits rather than map speed: Barcelona to Hamburg is not one day. The driving-hours tool does that arithmetic for you.
