Under EXW the seller only has to have the goods ready at its warehouse or factory. The buyer takes care of loading, export clearance, transport and everything after. Risk passes to the buyer as soon as the goods are placed at its disposal.
For international transport it is a problematic choice: the seller usually loads the truck anyway (taking on a risk that is not its own), and the foreign buyer must handle export in a country that is not its own. The ICC recommends FCA instead of EXW in those cases.
